As animal lovers and advocates, we at Island Tails-Anythings Pawsible Rescue have witnessed firsthand the tragic consequences of not driving carefully around cats. In our line of work, we often encounter situations that remind us of the importance of being aware of our surroundings and driving slowly, especially in areas where cats are known to roam.

One such incident involved two sibling cats in a neighborhood we feed the feral cats weekly. One day, while driving through the area, we witnessed a truck tragically run over one of the cats. The sibling, who had been nearby, stayed by their sibling's side, crying out in grief. It was a heartbreaking scene that left a lasting impact on us.

The next night, we were at a different location in Waiminalo, where a pregnant cat had been hit by a car. The unborn kittens lay scattered on the road, a heartbreaking sight that brought tears to our eyes. We gently removed the cat and her unborn kittens, burying them with respect and dignity.

These experiences serve as a reminder of the importance of driving slowly and being aware of cats crossing. Cats are not just animals; they are sentient beings capable of feeling pain, grief, and loss. They deserve our respect and compassion.

We urge everyone to please drive slowly, especially in areas where cats are known to live. By being mindful and cautious, we can help prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future. Let us all do our part to protect our feline friends and ensure their safety on our roads.
